A few more rules for guest posts

To ensure that guest contributions fit the content of our magazine and offer added value for our readers, we have established a few guidelines. We kindly ask you to consider and adhere to these. Otherwise, we may unfortunately be unable to publish your article, which would be a great shame.

  • Thematic relevance: The topic generally fits into one of our categories (see link above) and our thematic focus areas.
  • Added value for the reader: Always keep the readers in mind. The article should be informative, entertaining, exciting, or helpful.
  • No copyright infringement: The content must be free of third-party rights. If you are using your own images, please ensure that they are royalty-free or that you have the rights to use them.
  • No duplicate content: The text should be self-written and not previously published anywhere else on the web.
  • Length: at least 700 words, ideally more than 1,000 words
  • Spelling & Grammar: Pay attention to correct spelling, adhering to the new spelling rules, and clean grammar.
  • Readability and structure: The content should be easy to read and not too difficult to digest. A well-thought-out structure, the use of short and simple sentences, and the avoidance of excessive jargon and foreign words are advisable.
  • No purely AI-generated content: Artificial intelligence has long since found its way into journalism and content creation. Feel free to use it as a productivity tool for research, structuring, and as a writing aid. However, texts generated purely or predominantly by AI cannot be accepted. Also, ensure manual fact-checking.
  • If in doubt, please contact us beforehand: It's best to clarify your issue with us briefly in advance. It would be a shame if you made the effort unnecessarily.

Helpful tips / guide

You undoubtedly want your contribution to have the greatest possible impact. Your success is important to us as well.

Based on our many years of experience, in addition to the basic rules mentioned above, the following guidelines and tips have proven particularly effective:

Snappy headline

A compelling title phrase should capture attention and spark curiosity. This is a crucial foundation for getting your article clicked on and read.

Here you will find tried and tested ideas and suggestions:

Introduction

Begin the article with a concluding introduction.

Two to three sentences as an introduction help the reader to quickly grasp what it's about.

writing style

Write about your topic in your own personal, individual style. Avoid using advertising or PR language.

Content should also be neither too technocratic nor dominated by bureaucratic language.

Write according to the KISS principle: Keep it simple and stupid!

structuring

A well-thought-out and clear structure helps the reader to better consume long texts.

Use structuring elements such as subheadings (H2-H5), paragraphs, bullet points, quotation marks, highlights, quotations, etc.

Break long passages down into small, easily digestible chunks.

Focus on the reader

Always keep the reader in mind and put yourself in their shoes. The goal is to create added value for them.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is the content easy to understand?
  • Is the article informative, helpful, entertaining, exciting, controversial, funny, or does it answer an important question?

Images & Media

The internet is a visual medium. Images, graphics, and videos underline its statements, convey content in an appealing way, and liven up texts.

Use these media if possible. However, they must be freely available for use or you must possess the corresponding usage rights.

Please clarify the usage rights beforehand.

Sources & Evidence

When you cite figures or facts, assert facts, and put forward theses, substantiate them as best as possible with sources, ideally with links.

Author's Box

At the end of the text, your author box appears with your image, profile text and your (social) links.

Providing complete information builds trust with your readers. It also makes it easier for interested parties to contact you.

A nice profile picture can work wonders. In the anonymous internet, a smiling face often has a great impact.
