Colors touch us emotionally and stimulate the senses. They have a profound effect on our psyche, conveying information nonverbally, creating specific moods, and often strongly influencing the decisions we make.
The effect of colors is undeniable – inescapable – unavoidable. Colors influence our behavior, our mood, our thoughts. Our reactions to them are often deeply personal and rooted in our own experiences, values, and upbringing.
Colors have the property of reducing stress, calming, motivating, enabling, taking action, and also bringing healing energy.
Wassily Kandinsky once proclaimed: “ Color provokes a psychic vibration. Color conceals a still unknown, but real force that acts upon every part of the human body.”
Colors create a specific atmosphere and possess their own unique "energy." Colors are an integral part of our lives.
Drawn by a fascination with intense color palettes, thedotRod has completely surrendered to the pull of their luminosity and emotional power. Early in his studies in web and media design, he immersed himself in color theory, color psychology, and theories. This passion remains unbroken to this day.
, thedotRod developed a strong interest in composition and image structure
He was now able to incorporate both of his areas of interest into his digital image series, which combine scenic compositions with intense color palettes and a good dose of abstraction in a watercolor style . The abstraction is intended to create tension. Figurative representation is subordinated to the overall mood of the image and is meant to stimulate the viewer's imagination.
Black isn't a color? Isn't black simply the absence of color? Scientifically speaking, black is the absence of light. For thedotRod, however, the opposite is true: he sees incredible power and depth in it; "Nothing stimulates the imagination in images as strongly as the mysterious and unfathomable black." This perspective is also the source of inspiration for the "Dark Matters" .
thedotRod is a web and media designer based Passau, the city of three rivers, freelancer , blogger, and webmaster. He pursues his artistic passion in his free time.
His current work, besides the intensive use of color, focuses above all on the balance between abstract elements and realistic forms, which, blended together, create a multifaceted and vibrant world of captured moments. thedotRod finds inspiration in every moment of life and tries to show that it is especially the inconspicuous, fleeting, and often overlooked moments that deserve to be seen and to unfold their own unique, unrepeatable beauty.
He currently lives in Passau and finds inspiration while traveling and in the vast virtual world of the internet. He enjoys attending art classes, open studio afternoons, and workshops. At the same time, he refines his techniques and skills through online courses.

03 Sunset Surfer
“Surfing is more than just a water sport. It’s a lifestyle, an attitude, a way of life. Some people might just scratch their heads when they observe a surfer’s lifelong quest to find and ride that fabled perfect wave. Is it just a youthful idea that stubbornly persists into old age, or is it even a kind of obsession?”
No idea… maybe to a certain extent… but let’s look at it this way: A surfer’s schedule isn’t dictated by calendars or days of the week. They align themselves with natural time, fall in love with the power of the ocean, dance with the waves, and ultimately become much happier in life. This is definitely not just for teenagers and younger people :-)”
05 Tropical Sunset + 06 Purple Palm Beach
“Digital art of a tropical palm-fringed beach near the ocean at sunset. It makes our thoughts drift to a remote destination beneath coconut palms as we listen to the soothing sound of the shore.”.
It's no wonder that photographers around the world frequently turn to sunsets as popular subjects, capturing the spectacular and vibrant color palettes painted on Mother Nature's canvas. A profound source of inspiration for the color schemes of so many works of art.
Physically speaking, at sunset, light travels through the atmosphere along various paths, resulting in a complex interplay of many orange, violet, and red hues. Spiritually speaking, at sunset, our spirit embarks on a journey

02 Icy Lake + 03 Forsaken Boat
“We intuitively know that the weather influences our mood. Studies show that peaceful winter landscapes create atmospheric experiences and touch us emotionally. The ambiance of winter forests, winter lakes, mountains, or parks brings joy and deep relaxation.”.
What about snow? Do you remember how it felt the first time you woke up to freshly fallen snow and found out there was no school? Building a snowman? Having a snowball fight or making a snow angel? Such moments and memories of a winter wonderland allow us to merge with these images in the face of Mother Nature's splendor

01 Cabin in the Dark Woods
“Hopefully, this little cabin in the middle of the dark woods doesn’t hold any nasty surprises – like in the movie of the same name, where a group of college students who retreat to a remote cabin in the woods fall victim to terrifying hillbilly creatures. This digital image composition was inspired by those horror movies that give us goosebumps.”.
In any case, the dark and eerie atmosphere of this digital painting is clearly intentional. The lights shining from the cabin make us wonder who might inhabit it and whether the inhabitant is friendly or hostile. The tension is maintained. Should we approach this place or make a hasty retreat?
Despite these creepy feelings, it also triggers an ambivalent emotional reaction and brings back a flood of memories of our childhood, when we were told fairy tales about Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.”

01 Snowy Forest
“The mental association of trees, forests, winter, and snow is deeply rooted in our consciousness. Perhaps this is fueled by the annual images of Christmas trees that we encounter anew each winter.”.
Be that as it may, snow-covered landscapes – especially snow-covered forests – have a calming and peaceful effect on my mind. A magical winter wonderland that seems untouched by humans – trees rising proudly in this landscape, radiating a spirit of grandeur and permanence in a world softly covered by gently falling snowflakes

“Outdoor activities are more than just sport and any kind of physical exercise. It’s a lifestyle and a way of thinking. Spending time in forests, hiking in mountains, and simply being outdoors has the power to soothe even the most restless thoughts. It naturally increases serotonin levels in the brain, leading to a calming, feel-good effect.”.
Open landscapes, impressive mountain scenery and natural green spaces lead to a feeling of well-being that lasts a long time.
It's interesting that even a picture like this evokes those positive feelings and inspires us to spend the next weekend outdoors…”
