Art on the Christmas tree – quick ideas for unusual decorations
Last year's Christmas tree was so boring; this year it really should be something completely different (like every year). Is that a common complaint in your family? Then why not offer your family a completely different Christmas tree: simply opt for homemade Christmas tree decorations– that way you'll have a truly unique Christmas!
The tree decorations will have a theme
To make your first artistic Christmas tree with handcrafted pieces truly special, you could choose a theme and create several works around it. Creativity is a stubborn thing; very few of us find it easy to produce lots of small works of art right away, or even to come up with the ideas for such projects.
This will be different if you choose a specific theme to guide you when it comes to making the individual little creations for decorating the Christmas tree .
By choosing a theme, you are already setting the basic design for your tree to some extent: If you choose the theme “Angels”, the result will almost always look romantic, regardless of the material you use for the individual angels.
The theme “mathematics” will probably always produce results that seem both quirky and intellectual, even if you bake gingerbread in a classic way and decorate it with formulas.
Unless children are involved in the creation of the individual exhibits. Then the angels will surely be very colorful and completely different, and overall as individual in their expression as one should probably best imagine angels to be.
Searching for materials for the art on the Christmas tree
Once you have found your theme, you can turn your attention to the material from which your Christmas decorations will be made.
Either you simply use something you really like, perhaps white feathers, which, when glued onto various cardboard silhouettes, create angels of all different shapes.
When children participate, these themed craft projects are an excellent opportunity to use up all those leftover materials that have been languishing in the craft box for ages. Angels can be made from painted and decorated cardboard, perhaps angels can be cast from wax, leftover yarn can be crocheted into angels, and so on.

Or you could pursue other goals as well: for example, you could finally introduce your children to the recycling process. Then a tree would be decorated using only waste materials, and while brainstorming ideas and gathering the materials, you'd have plenty of time for explanations that don't come across as dry lectures.
This tree can actually look very exciting when finished – just imagine a Christmas tree decorated with hundreds of little bows made from chocolate wrappers.
Artistic freedom for the Christmas tree
What you do with this material within the framework set by the motto is entirely up to you; after all, artistic freedom is one of our protected fundamental rights.
The theme ensures that all the resulting elements will fit together, even if they are made from completely different materials, have very different sizes, or feature a colorful mix.
The themes or mottos that can be dedicated to a Christmas tree are virtually endless. Don't be alarmed if your children suggest themes that initially seem a bit exotic or crazy – the Christmas tree with a hip-hop theme might just be the most beautiful tree you've ever seen!
