What are the benefits of a crimping iron for long hair?

When hair with a crimping iron , you don't just have the option of creating curls. This practical tool offers you many other functions:

  • Create volume: Does your hair keep falling flat? Instead of backcombing it, it's better to gently crimp it. It will automatically become more voluminous without the crimping effect being immediately visible.
  • Styling braided hairstyles: Braided hair quickly loses volume throughout the day and then looks flat and unkempt. Use a crimping iron to add more bounce and hold. Make sure your braided hairstyle still looks good in the evening.
  • Crimped ends: Are your beach waves getting a bit boring? Crimp the ends to combine casual style with a modern twist. The perfect spring and summer hairstyle that will still look great at festivals.

Whether you want to highlight individual strands or crimp your entire hair – with the right device you can conjure up a new hairstyle every day of the week, without getting bored.

Use a crimping iron for short hair

Short hair gets an avant-garde look with a crimping iron. Not only long hairstyles, but also bobs, pixie cuts, and similar styles are given a completely new look with individual crimped strands.

The advantage here is that the transformation is particularly quick. Short hair is crimped in no time, and you'll look completely different in a very short time.

How to use your crepe iron correctly

The crimping iron gets hot during use. Therefore, it's crucial to protect your hair from burns. Use a heat protectant spray before placing the first strand between the crimping plates. This will protect your hair from the heat.

Tip: Even the lowest setting achieves great results. You don't need to turn the temperature up to the maximum.

To achieve good results, section your hair. Use vertically pulled sections and secure the excess hair with clips. This ensures that every strand is included.

Do you have very thick hair? To make the crimped look really stand out, only crimp thin strands at a time. The contrast will be greater, and your new hairstyle will be more noticeable.

And here's how it works, step by step:

  1. Take a single strand of hair and clamp it between the plates of the crimping iron.
  2. Keep the device closed for a few seconds.
  3. Open the plates, take out the strand and fix it directly with hairspray.
  4. Only then should you continue with the next strand.

Note: A flat iron is used similarly. You start at the top and then pull the iron down. This doesn't work with a crimping iron. You place the strand of hair in the crimping iron, crimp it, and then secure the crimped section. To crimp long strands completely, you'll need to work your way down step by step. Often, however, just a few highlights are enough for a striking look.

Crimping irons are available in various widths. For very long hair, choose a wide plate; for short hair, a narrow device is well-suited.

Hair Art – artistic hair creations by creative hairstylists

Speaking of hair styling – there are a multitude of fascinating ways to creatively use natural hair and transform it into impressive works of art.

Hairstyles offer an extraordinary opportunity to express one's personality – isn't that a form of art in itself? Let's call it Hair Art.

A wave of talented hairstylists is elevating this concept to a new level, adding a remarkable dimension to cultural discourse and visual aesthetics on social media. Their impressive and seemingly weightless masterpieces are transforming not only hair, but also the way we present ourselves, into something revolutionary.

With this in mind, we present four artists whose creative work you should definitely follow to gain inspiration and insights into this fascinating art form.

Laetitia KY

For example, take inspiration from Ivorian hair designer Laetitia KY . She is a talented 21-year-old designer from the Ivory Coast who creates extraordinary sculptures with her own hair and shares them with her 17,400 Instagram followers.

Her hair creations range from unusual everyday objects like bicycles and light bulbs to profound political messages, and she has built a significant following on social media.

Her works are not only creative expressions, but also powerful tributes to women and the Black Lives Matter movement.

According to Buzzfeed, Laetitia initially found her inspiration in a photo series celebrating the beauty of traditional African hairstyles:

They were huge, and I wondered how you could recreate that with hair.”

That's what she told the platform. It seems she's definitely found the answer, because every new design she presents is even more artistic than the last.

Although the time it takes to create each new hairstyle varies, Laetitia often uses whatever materials are available to her. She incorporates needles, wool, and fabric into her hairstyles to bring her visions to life. Social media has brought her remarkable talent into the spotlight and provides her with a platform to express herself and fully unleash her creativity.

Nikki Nelms

Renowned hairdresser Nikki Nelms counts numerous celebrities, including Yara Shahidi, Solange Knowles, and Zoe Kravitz, among her valued clients. To give their hair a truly fresh and breathtaking look, she gives free rein to her creativity.

Her work is influenced by a variety of inspiring sources, be it the beauty of nature, the latest fashion trends, or her personal mood and feelings.

I love using materials that initially have nothing to do with hair to create new, innovative styles.”

Nelms explains in an insightful interview with Allure . An impressive example is the look pictured below, creatively crafted from wire and cardboard. This approach not only illustrates Nelms' exceptional skills but also her passion for experimenting and creating unique hair moments.
