Stamping Art - The art of stamping in artistic forms

Stamps are quite fundamentally uncomplicated artist utensils: apply some ink or color, press them onto a base and you already have an image. You can create and order stamps online at stempelservice.de .

But the way in which mixed media artists create and use stamps is anything but easy. With stamps, embossed images can be created, designs can be changed with water colors and acrylic paint and patterns can be stamped in sound, plastic or gesso to create prints and add texture.

Create individual motifs by carving rubber from hand, using finds for stamping or drawing in craft foam. In the hands of an artist, no limits are made what is possible with a stamp.

Use the following tips and techniques for your next project and gain a completely new perspective on stamping.

Joan Bess: Gelli Plate Printing

The use of rubber stamps in the mono print leads to breathtaking results.

In your book "Gelli Plate Printing: Mixed Media Monoprinting Without A Press" Joan Bess describes the process: Stamp the images you want to use, then cut them out and cut them into the image.

Then stamp the same pictures on a sheet of paper and cover each picture with the corresponding mask. Create a monoprint on paper with a Gelli Arts printing plate and leave the masks in place.

If necessary, create multi -layered pressure and make sure that the masks remain in place. When you are ready to print, remove the masks for the big unveiling!

Dina Wakley: Layered Stamping

Have you ever stamped a focus picture on an area and then found that part of it was not printed? Dina Wakley feels her pain. In her webinar "Layered and Stamped Images" she informed one of her tips for foolproof stamps.

First cover watercolor paper with layers of paint, stencils and stamp images created with acrylic paint and let it dry. Then stamp pictures with permanent ink on the white and uncoated paper handkerchief.

Dina prefers a mixture of focus images (flowers, faces, people, etc.) and background images (textures, text, dots, etc.).

Next, cut out the pictures and glue on your surface with a gel medium. Overlap some with the previously stamped pictures to achieve a layer effect. Cover with another layer of gel medium.

The combination of light paper and gel medium makes the tissue disappear in the background.

Elitia Hart: Metalled metal

Together with every mixed media project, shaped metal

To create these embossed designs, look in your stamp supply. In the July/August edition of the 2015 magazine "Cloth Paper Scissor", Elitia Hart demonstrated the technology based on a large flower stamp, in which she stamped a tin blade of the starch 36 with permanent ink.

When the ink is dry, put the metal on a thin foam mat and trace the lines of the image with a teflon pen. Turn the leaf over so that the back points upwards, and again easily draw with the pen within the embossing lines just created.

Now place the metal with the punched side up to a hard acrylic mat and smooth the background around the design with a stump. Place the metal back on the foam panel with the back up and press the design with the paper stump.

Smooth the background again on the hard acrylic mat, with the stamped side up. To ensure that the sublime motifs are not crushed, fill them with melted beeswax and have it hardened.

Dye the picture with alcohol ink.
