Prestigious Turner Prize 2012 awarded to video artist Elizabeth Price
An artist who receives the coveted Turner Prize has won one of the most prestigious art awards in the art world. This year, the prize was awarded to an impressive video installation by the artist Elizabeth Price .
The most prestigious British art award comes with a prize of 25,000 British pounds – equivalent to approximately 31,000 euros. In her video installation, Elizabeth Price has explored our consumer culture in a spectacular way.
In a kaleidoscope of images, she incorporated, among other things, pictures of a department store fire from 1979, archival architectural photographs, and photos of a girl band from the 1960s. The jury described the artistic result as "seductive" and "powerful.".
The mix of commercials, archive footage, and music videos provided a rhythmically structured experience.

Despite its undisputed prestige, the awarding of the Turner Prize has not been entirely uncontroversial for years. Only a few artists are nominated each year.
In this case, the nominees were Elisabeth Price, Irish musician and filmmaker Luke Fowler, British illustrator Paul Noble, who primarily depicts a fictional town called Nobson Newtown, and painter and performance artist Spartacus Chetwynd. None of them went home empty-handed; as nominees for Britain's most prestigious art prize, they all automatically received £5,000 in prize money.
Following the recent presentation of the Turner Prize by Jude Law , the laureate Elisabeth Price provided some insights into her working methods
Price said she often works on a video installation for an entire year. She then repeatedly edits and reworks it until she understands in detail what she wants to convey and what emphases she wants to place. Since the Turner Prize has been awarded annually since 1984 to contemporary artists under 50, it is one of the few major art prizes that promotes the careers of relatively young artists.
Typically, only much older and already established artists receive the world's most prestigious art prizes. With the prize money, winner Price can now realize further video projects.
The Turner Prize is named after the painter William Turner . The renowned Tate Gallery is responsible for its organization . Some nominees who didn't win have gone on to win the coveted Turner Prize the following year or later.
Women are represented among the nominees just as frequently as men. The jury is as international as the list of nominated artists.
The following short video briefly introduces the nominated artists and their contributions and works.
