An exhibition characterized by change and transition

New visions are shaped by transitions, a pause between seasons, states of mind, and perspectives. As winter gives way to spring, the exhibition inhabits this fertile in-between space, where boundaries loosen and new possibilities emerge. Through painting and printmaking, the four artists reflect on moments of creation and invite viewers to slow down, look again, and consider what change might bring.

The artists are united by an abstract language based on lived experience. Their practices draw on landscape, memory, sensation, and perception, producing works that appear both provisional and vibrant. Throughout the exhibition, color, rhythm, brushstroke, and layered surfaces suggest both physical and psychological thresholds.

The artists and their works

Victoria Wylie creates luminous paintings that celebrate Scotland's land and sea. Working from her studio in Angus, she creates layered surfaces in blues, greens, and earth tones that evoke coastal light and open horizons. Returning to Light captures the contemplative, solitary quality that defines her practice.

Balbinder Broadbent constructs richly layered compositions in which color reveals and conceals form. In Blue Gold, vibrant turquoise, pink, and ochre tones create dynamic relationships across the surface. Her work hovers between structure and intuition, with color functioning as rhythm rather than description.

Hetty Haxworth brings over three decades of experience in printmaking to bold, geometric compositions. Working from rural Aberdeenshire, she uses monotype and screen printing techniques to capture fleeting light effects across the landscape. Velvet Night balances precision with atmospheric warmth; her forms are both deliberate and vibrant.

Amanda Phillips combines the spatial awareness of an architect with a painter's feel for atmosphere. Her work moves between structured composition and gestural drawing, often focusing on coastal themes. Staithes maintains a balance between architectural clarity and painterly softness, hovering between revelation and concealment.

Art as an open process

Instead of offering definitive conclusions, New Visions art as an open, evolving process. The works encourage reflection, attentiveness, and a willingness to accept uncertainty by finding beauty and possibilities in flux.

This makes the exhibition particularly suitable for collectors seeking art that evolves with continued viewing. Abstract works of this quality reveal new aspects over time, responding to changes in light and the shifting attention of the viewer.
