Sculpture “Equilibrion” by Damiano Taurino, bronze on wood

The Italian sculptor Damiano Taurino hails from the Salento peninsula – a region where Baroque art and architecture are ubiquitous. This influence is still evident in Taurino's figures. Realistic and with meticulous attention to detail, he models his sculptures, which are essentially scenes, each telling its own little story. One of the central motifs in his work is dance. Sometimes dynamic, sometimes sensitive, he portrays dancers – as here – in perfect balance: Taurino's graceful dancer demonstrates what rigorous practice in dance and ballet ultimately achieves: supreme elegance and an impression of ethereal lightness.
