Garden sculpture “Raccoon, looking” (version with base), bronze + wood

The raccoon is an exceptionally agile and, according to behavioral biologists, probably also extraordinarily intelligent animal. In its American homeland, it was even attributed with magical powers by the indigenous peoples. Incidentally, this cute little creature isn't a bear at all – it's actually classified as a canid. And the idea that it "washes" its food before eating it, as was believed when it was named, is more of a human projection than reality.
