Outdoor sculpture “The World” by Rainer Stiefvater, artificial marble
His impressive statues, wall reliefs, and fountains have brought the Baden artist Rainer Stiefvater international acclaim. His latest work, a limited-edition homage to the beauty of creation, draws inspiration from the sculptures of Freiburg Minster. Stiefvater references archaic mystery cults and their nature-based roots, including the Magna Mater, venerated for her spring festivals. The stylized growth rings on her shoulders symbolize this cycle, while a lizard on her back has been interpreted as a symbol of dark forces since the High Middle Ages.
Edition in polymer-bonded artificial marble. Edition of 49 copies. Height 165 cm.

Rainer Stiefvater, a painter and sculptor from Baden, born in 1943, began his career after an apprenticeship as a stove fitter and tile setter. However, he quickly decided to pursue fine art and completed training at the Basel School of Applied Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts Munich. In over 40 years as a freelance artist, he created a diverse body of work encompassing sculptures, statues, wall reliefs, fountains, and mixed-media pieces – in both abstract and figurative forms. In addition to numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad, he also completed public commissions, including sculptures for the city of Freiburg.
