Gerhard Richter, one of the most versatile artists of our time, defines himself without fixed intentions or stylistic directions. Born in Dresden in 1932 and having emigrated to the West, he initially gained recognition through photorealistic painting. Richter's work is characterized by constant reinvention; from figurative art to monochrome gray paintings to successful abstraction. In addition to painting, he is also active as a sculptor, photographer, and performance artist, and his works fetch top prices on the art market. Despite his fame, Richter remains modest and prefers to speak through his art. His oil painting "Candle" was auctioned for almost 12 million euros and is considered a symbol of resistance in East Germany. Among his prominent collectors is the musician Eric Clapton. Richter has received several prestigious awards, including the Praemium Imperiale and a comprehensive retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which remains the largest exhibition of a living artist there to date.
