Kai Queden's paintings are like a mini-vacation. A true North Frisian, he dedicates himself primarily to coastal landscapes, painting atmospheric impressions of the sea, the beach, and the vast horizon. In his works, Queden, born in 1965, combines powerful expression with a tranquil atmosphere. The painter from the island of Amrum prefers to work with egg tempera on canvas—a centuries-old painting technique that makes the colors appear particularly natural and vibrant. His painting style is therefore entirely focused on bringing out the luminosity of the colors. To give the colors as much space as possible, Queden doesn't depict his landscapes realistically. Instead, he composes them from a few details and with a broad application of paint. The motifs, however, always remain recognizable and evoke an almost real moment by the sea in the viewer's imagination.
