Günter Christlein, a physicist by training with a doctorate, began his career as a sculptor after studying sculpture at the University of Munich. Since the early 1960s, he has been creating sculptures of great sensual physicality and erotic appeal. The expression and body language of his female figures are always evocative and aim for a very specific form of sensual beauty or erotic appeal. He deliberately does not fully sculpt his figures, but rather allows them to emerge, as it were, from the clay. In this way, he creates contrasts that appeal to the viewer's sense of form, their senses, their intellect, and their subconscious.
