Hokusai (1760-1849) was one of the most important exponents of Ukiyo-e, the Japanese woodblock print. His images influenced artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Egon Schiele, and Gustav Klimt. This motif comes from his famous series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (1830-36), in which Hokusai captured the landscapes surrounding Japan's highest mountain.
