Hand-painted sculpture “Lovers” by Michael Pickl, cast metal with wood finish
Sculpture “Lovers”, cast metal, wood finish
Michael Pickl creates sculptures of thoroughly contemporary men and women, the kind we might encounter on the street every day, portraying them in moments of relaxation and happiness. No piece of wood is too crooked for the artist to transform into a person, even a very modern one.
“We belong together,” this double figure clearly expresses. In this case, it also has a deeper, more technical meaning: Pickl carved his sculpture from a single block of wood.
Polymer art casting with a wood finish, partly hand-painted.

The Königsberg philosopher Immanuel Kant observed that humankind is made of crooked wood. Sculptor Michael Pickl (born 1971) from Kastl disagrees: for him, no piece of wood is too crooked to create modern human forms. Using various tools, he creates sculptures of contemporary men and women in moments of relaxation and happiness. His delicate, brightly painted wooden figures clearly show the marks of his craftsmanship and have been presented in numerous exhibitions, including several at the New Art Salon in the Haus der Kunst in Munich.
