“The Avenue – a hanging” (2021) – mixed media painting by Tony Roberts

Tony Roberts on his work: "This piece is the first and currently largest in a new series of landscape artworks focusing specifically on trees. The resilience, life, and persistent tenacity of trees deeply move me! It also represents a new way of presenting my work—namely, in the form of a hanging. I learned traditional Japanese hanging techniques and tweaked them slightly to suit the canvas on which I create my art. In creating this piece, I utilized various artistic disciplines. I enjoy working with different art forms such as painting (ink and acrylic), drawing (pencil and pastel), photography, printmaking, and digital art apps (iPad, PC, and Mac). This approach now applies to all my artwork: I work on my images, creating and revising them until I am satisfied. Throughout my life, I have created sculptures in glass, as well as painted and drawn works on paper and fabric. This has given me a range of exciting skills that I enjoy combining and which to works that I can present to you with great pride."
