Garden sculpture “Little Aphrodite” , bronze
The name of the goddess of love and beauty translates as "the foam-born one," for in Greek mythology she rises from water. The blue patina of Bodirsky's Aphrodite suggests that she can find her place both in a garden pond and on solid ground.
Bronze edition, cast using the lost-wax process, hand-chased and patinated. Limited edition of 99 numbered and signed copies.
Format 32 x 20 x 25 cm (H/W/D). Weight approx. 6.2 kg.

The fundamental elements of earth, water, fire, and air are what sculptor and ceramicist Maria-Luise Bodirsky, born in 1952, connects in her sculptures and working process. Clay is her primary means of expression as she captures, explores, and depicts the inner and outer circumstances of her figures. Bodirsky draws inspiration for her archaic-looking figures from early human history, Egyptian civilization, Greek mythology, and the Old Testament, as well as from modern literature such as that of Pablo Neruda.
