About David Spiller:
David Spiller (1942-2018) studied painting at the renowned Slade School in London. Besides his teacher Frank Auerbach, Spiller cited Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet as influential artists. Nevertheless, his chosen motifs, their vibrant colors, and clear contours, combined with snippets of text, clearly referenced Pop Art. Spiller borrowed the lyrics for his playful and cheerful works from his favorite songs, thus adding a personal dimension to the popular themes.
His work is frequently exhibited alongside that of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jim Dine.
