What resembles blades of grass, feathers, and plant fibers are actually dynamically applied brushstrokes with which Isa Dahl creates her biomorphic paintings. Using glazing techniques, Dahl layers paint, creating motifs on the canvas that oscillate between figuration and abstraction. In a fascinating way, Isa Dahl explores the commonalities between abstract painting and gestural calligraphy. Each painting conveys an alluring sense of spatial depth, revealing countless layers to the viewer upon closer inspection. Isa Dahl studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. She has received numerous scholarships and awards for her work. The artist lives and works in Stuttgart. At art Karlsruhe 2016, her large-format paintings were among the highlights of the fair.
