Wooden sculpture “Wirf” by Roman Johann Strobl, hand-chiseled and hand-painted
“Singing dancers,” is how Roman Johann Strobl describes his wooden sculptures. Human figures that dance through their very being. The dynamic, tense poses express the intensity of the moment. The wood carving technique is largely achieved with a chainsaw, as well as other methods. Despite his unusually robust technique, Strobl succeeds in creating delicate figures with a wealth of detail.
Unique piece carved from linden wood with a chainsaw and hand-chiseled and painted by the artist. Hand-signed. Dimensions: 72.5 x 20 x 17 cm (H/W/D). Weight: approx. 1.9 kg.

Roman Johann Strobl, a sculptor and painter living in Going am Wilden Kaiser, has made a name for himself among art collectors and gallery owners, primarily through his delicate yet expressive and playfully dynamic wooden sculptures. He gained public attention through his design of the German film award "Lola" and portraits, including one of Gerhard Schröder. Born in Austria in 1951, Strobl comes from a family of traditional woodcarvers. He learned the craft in his father's workshop at the age of 14. To further develop his skills, Strobl studied sculpture under Professor Sebastian Cosamale in Todi, Italy. Numerous trips to the Middle East, India, and Crete, the land of Greek mythology, followed, providing lasting inspiration for the themes in his sculptural work.
