50 years of screen experience, more than 40,000 short commercials, and countless other antics. The Mainzelmännchen are iconic. Since April 2, 1963, they have been a part of our daily lives, and many of us took Anton, Berti, Conni, Det, Edi, and Fritzchen to our hearts as children.
To mark her 50th stage anniversary in 2013, another bronze sculpture has been added to our Mainzelmännchen series. It was sculpted by her creator, the graphic artist and stage designer Wolf Gerlach himself, and released by him and ZDF in a strictly limited edition exclusively for ars mundi.

Wolf Theodor Gerlach, born in Pomerania in 1928 and raised on the North Sea island of Langeoog, developed an early interest in the technical aspects of the performing arts. After training as a film architect and stage and costume designer, he gained his first experience in Oldenburg before moving to Braunschweig and Wiesbaden. In the early 1960s, Gerlach turned to advertising films and, in 1963, created the iconic Mainzelmännchen for the launch of the ZDF television network.
