Robert Hettich: “Antrakt” (2019), reproduction on aluminum plate
Image “Antrakt” (2019)
The works of Robert Hettich, born in 1964, skillfully oscillate between abstraction and concretization, between color impression and figurative representation. The motifs remain recognizable, but the main effect is a mood, an emotion, which is communicated to the viewer precisely through the groups of people dissolved into color fields and compositions. In the large-format “Antrakt” from 2019, this effect is further enhanced by the reproduction behind 1.5 mm thick acrylic glass on an aluminum panel.

When Robert Hettich, a German of Russian descent, came to Germany in his mid-twenties in 1988, he was immediately able to establish himself as a graphic designer. He had studied graphic design, art, and painting in Leninabad, Tajikistan (now Khujand), an education that proved exceptionally solid because it placed great emphasis on imparting fundamental artistic knowledge and mastering practical techniques. Nevertheless, after studying at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, he also completed a diploma examination in graphic design. This dual educational path may explain his versatility.
