Gilded sculpture “Protection Goddess Isis”, museum replica made of cast iron and wood
Sculpture “Protection Goddess Isis” (original size), gilded
“I am everything that was, everything that is, and everything that will be…” This is how an inscription on one of her countless statues describes the “magical realm” and “goddess with 10,000 names.” To the Egyptians, she was above all a mother, woman, and childbirth goddess. She was considered the mother of the gods and the protector of the ruling pharaoh.
This figure was one of the four guardian goddesses who watched over the shrine containing the entrails of the mummified Tutankhamun. The goddesses were meant to protect the pharaoh in the afterlife and ward off danger. The shrine with the goddesses was discovered in a room directly adjacent to the burial chamber. Egypt, 18th Dynasty, circa 1335 BC.
