“If you don’t shy away from a difficult task, it will reward you with beautiful children,” Bernard Kapfer explains with a twinkle in his eye, revealing the key to his art. Born in Paris in 1945, the sculptor studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Nice, where the now-resident of Alsace devoted himself exclusively to painting and drawing for many years before sculpture became the focus of his work. With consummate technique, Kapfer embarks on a search for archetypal forms. He draws inspiration from the great tradition of the Renaissance; his engagement with the great masterpieces of classical art and their contemporary reinterpretation are his path to 21st-century art.
