Venus is the goddess of love and beauty. She is also called the foam-born goddess because, according to legend, she rose from the sea foam after her birth near the island of Kypris. Renaissance painters associated the birth of the goddess of love with the seashell, as Sandro Botticelli did in his famous painting "The Birth of Venus." Undoubtedly, Paul Wunderlich was inspired by Botticelli's depiction. But what he made of it! With the imagination of an artist and the precision of a mathematician, he developed an ideal form that doesn't deny its representational origins, yet transcends reality.
